Chamber Spotlight

Family Night in the Park

The Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to award the July Spotlight to “Family Night in the Park!” Family Night in the Park kicked off its inaugural year in July of 2009 in a joint effort of many Public Safety/Public Services Agencies, local businesses, and community leaders. The event is designed to familiarize the public, especially the local youth, with the services provided and the equipment used by the various public safety agencies that are responsible for serving the citizens of Pinckneyville and Perry County. The event also allows those in attendance to meet and interact with those officials in a positive setting. Family Night in the Park provides a fun, safe, family-friendly and educational event that is free of charge.

“Without the help of many community volunteers, Police, Fire, Sheriff's Office and EMT personnel and local businesses and organizations who have generously volunteered their time as well as made donations of cash and needed supplies we could not have made Family Night in the Park into the event that it has become,” says one of the event’s organizers Mr. Marty Beltz.

The 2010 Family Night in the Park event is scheduled for July 30th at the Pinckneyville Fairgrounds from 5-9pm. The committee plans to have a number of public safety vehicles and equipment on display including police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and an ARCH Air Medical helicopter. There will be a bicycle safety course as well as multiple bike giveaways, games and activities for kids and teens including a dunking booth, bounce house and rock climbing station. The popular 'drunk driving obstacle course' returns again this year as does the public safety officials’ donut eating contest. Special entertainment appearances will be made by Beaucoup Creek Band and Magician Chris Egelston. There will once again be free food and drinks and maybe even a few surprises!! See the full event flier on www.pinckneyville.com or posted in various locations around town. Donations are still being accepted and should be sent to the Pinckneyville Police Department.

Donations made to last year's Family Night in the Park event were also used to bring Santa to town on the first Saturday in December. Santa rode a Pinckneyville Fire truck through town and visited children (and a few kids at heart) as he passed out candy canes and listened to Christmas wishes. With the continued support of the community Family Night hopes to be able to continue such special events and perhaps even add other cost-free family friendly events in the future.
