March 2011 – Caring and Sharing Thrift Shop

Congratulations to the Caring and Sharing Thrift Shop for being the Chamber’s March Spotlight!

In its beginning, the members of the Thrift Shop and the community may have not envisioned what Caring and Sharing has become today. The non-profit organization held its grand opening and ribbon cutting in their new building at 814 South Main in February.

As they began three years ago, the mission of the founding group was to save Skilled Care. With a generous monetary donation from Mr. Howard Smith, support from the city and items donated from the community, the thrift shop is thriving. In addition to providing inexpensive clothing and used household items to the community, Caring and Sharing distributes approximately $6,000 in scholarships annually to PCHS students entering the health care field. It also purchases items for the local nursing home. Future plans for Caring and Sharing include additional parking.

Officers and directors include: President Shirley Welsch, Vice President Tirzah Chapman, Secretary Mary C. Keene, Treasurer Vicki Weatherford and Directors Millie Webber, Janice Epplin and Pat Gladson. Daily Operation Committee members are Pat Huth, Chairman, and Judy Lindner, Vice Chairman. Building Supervisors/Finance Committee members are Howard Smith and Henry River.

Congratulations once again to the Caring and Sharing Thrift Shop for all you have done, and for your future contributions to our community!
